DJS&A was retained to lead a master planning study for this 105 year old Veterinary Hospital located at 510 East 62nd St, New York, NY. Subsequently, when the hospital was able to hire two renowned innovators in vascular surgery, we were retained to coordinate all phases of the design and construction for this state-of-the-art hybrid Interventional Radiology and Operating Room Suite.
This new prototype veterinary facility is the first of its kind and was designed specifically for the treatment of animals. DJS&A managed the 12 month design and construction process beginning with architectural layout and coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing requirements with three medical equipment vendors. We oversaw the construction of the space, and installation and testing of the radiology equipment and the associated medical systems.
Services included assessing the requirements of the doctors who would be the end-users of the new space, contracting for all consultants and contractors, assisting the architect in translating existing human facility standards into the veterinary program and coordinating the design process, integrating the requirements of the three main medical vendors (Siemens, Karl Storz and Trumpf), overseeing the equipment procurement and delivery process, overseeing the construction of the room and managing the testing of the equipment, and close-out of the project. This process was extremely coordination sensitive and required numerous layouts of the space with simulated equipment operation in 3-D so the doctors could model how the space would work with different types of the animals and procedures.
